Hey what’s up guys - it’s Benji - I’m going to do a quick tutorial on making 808 patterns in logic.
There’s lots of different ways you can do this in different DAWs but the basic principle stays the same.
We are going to take an 808 one shot sample, tune it and spread it across the keyboard so we can play in our patterns.
I’m going to be doing this in the EXS24 sampler in Logic - if you have the newer version of Logic then this will also be applicable to the stock Logic sampler (RIP EXS). I’ve broken this down into 4 steps:
Select your 808 - I’m using an 808 from the Mob Ties kit which is fire and I highly recommend it.
Convert to a sampler instrument - select the 808 region and “convert to sampler instrument”.
Tune and set envelope - you want to know that what you’re playing on the keyboard makes sense musically with whatever you’re playing with - that’s why we always need to make sure we’re tuning our 808s when spreading them across a sampler.
Play and record the 808 pattern
Hope you guys find this useful and as always hit us up with any other videos you’d like to see!
